The loop of a rollercoaster has been constructed mainly from recycled materials; it appears abandoned and inoperable.
The undulating lines of the wooden structure are framed by the hypnotic flickering of the heat lamps,
which alternately illuminate and highlight the walk-through area in the centre of the track:
a warning or an invitation to step closer.
Leisure architecture, a place of longed-for thrills and provoked emotions, becomes a meditative, dysfunctional model.
With no clear beginning or distinct end, a section of the floor is demarcated, and the question of the authority of and access to commercial entertainment, as well as its cycles, is transferred into the exhibition space.
The work was realised as part of the exhibition “nice, fake and cozy”, which I organised in October 2022 in an old, abandoned bank branch in Cologne and to which I had invited 20 other artists.
